Edward St Aubyn – Lost for Words

As the author of comic novels, Gert is all too aware that one person’s “gruellingly unfunny” is another person’s “funny, sidesplittingly so”.  Edward St Aubyn seems to have stirred up a genteel spat in The Guardian with his latest book satirising literary prizes.  Is he just miffed at not winning the Booker in 2006? Is he dismayed by the increasingly  commercial-minded judges? He is a dodgy writer, it’s true; when he’s good he’s very very good, but when he’s bad is he as horrid as this reviewer thinks?
