New Australian national anthem

Gert is delighted to announce that, on the 25th anniversary of the much-loved Bananas in Pyjamas, Australia is adopting their theme song as the national anthem. Here are the words so you can practise before the next international sporting event or military parade:

Bananas in pajamas are coming down the stairs,

Bananas in pajamas are coming down in pairs,

Bananas in pajamas are chasing teddy bears,

’cause on Tuesdays they all try to catch them unawares

For coin collectors, there’s also a Bananas in Pyjamas coin:

For those poor ignoramuses who’ve never heard of B1 and B2, here is a short lesson:

      1. I wonder if it’s a not so oblique reference to the ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ song, particularly the lines
“The little teddy bears are having a lovely time today. Watch them, catch them unawares,
And see them picnic on their holiday.”

But why “today” should be Tuesday I have no idea or suggestion for.
