There are worse things than having behaved foolishly in public.
There are worse things than these miniature betrayals,
Committed or endured or suspected; there are worse things
Than not being able to sleep for thinking about them.
It is 5 a.m. All the worse things come stalking in
and stand icily about the bed looking worse and worse and worse.

That is such a sly, sneaky, explosive poem, Fleur Adcock at her best. Love the illustration too.
Don’t you wish you’d written it?
Not name-dropping or anything (ahem)but Fleur Adcock lives in the next road over here in East Fincley and sometimes does readings in our local bookshop….
5:00 am. is a definitely a bad time. I think a lot of people die at 5:00 am.

Do you wake up in the small hours and remember things you’d rather not remember?
If I wake up in the night I listen to my little radio. Sometimes I can get the news from Australia. I use the ear plugs so I don’t wake up Peter.
I can recommend a program called Late NIght Live which I believe is also available on theCanadian public radio,
Yes, I’ve listened to that many a time. Have you ever heard of Coast to Coast AM?
Just looked it up. Some very interesting stuff!
Interesting indeed!….chuckle
